Another browser takes aim at Safari
Some people love the Safari browser, others hate it. If you happen to be one of the latter, you just might appreciate the imminent arrival of Google Chrome for the Mac. Then again, you might be perfectly happy with Firefox.
Google Chrome has been confirmed for the 'first half' of 2009, which admittedly is vague, but at the same time, not too far off. It is being developed alongside the Linux version and according to Chrome product manager Brian Rakowski, the browser is working right now as a 'test shell', able to show web pages, but little else. 'We have not spent any time building out features. We're still iterating on making it stable and getting the architecture right,' he added.
So it looks like being a case of better late than never. But look on the bright side, Google updated Chrome 14 times between beta and full launch on the PC, resulting in a browser 50 per cent faster and far more secure. When it launches on the Mac, it just might hit the ground running.
