Metal Gear Solid Touch coming in spring 2009

We suspected that it was possible that Konami was planning to do something new with Metal Gear Solid, but the Xbox 360 version was not on the agenda. Instead, Konami will be launching a variety of their best franchise title on the Apple iPhone.

The news was headlined with the fact that Konami will be launching a new Metal Gear title called Metal Gear Solid Touch, which will be based in part on the recently released Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The iPhone/Touch version of the title will feature additional downloadable content and is expected to drop in the spring of 2009.

Konami is also planning additional iPhone releases, including Dance Dance Revolution S Lite, Frogger, and Silent Hill: The Escape, which are all expected to launch before the end of the year.

Konami’s move to capitalize on the success of the iPhone/iPod Touch is really not a big surprise. More and more developers are looking inside their franchise catalog to see what blasts from the past would make good and creative possibilities for play on the iPhone. It is estimated that a good majority of the big name developers are at least looking seriously, if not already developing, for the iPhone/iPod Touch platform.
